The other week Liana and I went with a small group of people to take pictures in the neighbourhood of Palermo here in Buenos Aires. Palermo is the biggest barrio in Buenos Aires and we explored one small area called Palermo Soho. It's been gentrified in the last ten years or so. Today it's a mix of boutiques, restaurants, cafes, bars and unfinished buildings. These are streets where old and new meet. There is always something fun to look at in this eclectic neighbourhood. Have a peak! ✿ Micheline
And Everything Else A Canadian Learned From A Colombiana About the Balance of Mother, Wife and Self
¡La Vida Es Buena . . . Vivela!
A Colombiana and a Canadian take an inside look at how Latin women can make sexy look seamless in motherhood.
Micheline and Liana meet during their expatriate relocation to Buenos Aires, Argentina. As an everyday mom of a three- and five-year-old, Canadian Micheline is tired. She hasn't peed with the bathroom door closed in years and has no idea where her workout wear is. Personal time is a vague memory and she avoids mirrors at all costs.
Liana, a Colombiana and mother of a two- and a seven-old, bubbles up. She looks as fresh as a teenager whether she is going to the gym, playing with her girls or heading out for cocktails with her husband. Micheline discovers that Liana finds joy and humour in everything--from grocery shopping to waxing to hangovers. Yes, even hangovers...Through their friendship, they realize that Latin and non-Latin women look at the world with different perspectives on beauty, exercise and mothering.
Micheline decides she wants to take a drink from the Latin cup. After years of personal friendship, humour and outrageous stories, they decide to make it a project. The Beautiful Hangover is born.
¡Vamos chicas!

Where To Start?
Ok, what a intense month... Wow!... where to start?...
At the start of this month I was not feeling too well, but I did not know exactly what it was.. after having lots of exams and tests I was still none the wiser as they all came back fine …so I was happy about that part, but then what was my problem?.. and of course this is where I started to think about my word.. Somatizar... What is going on inside of me that is making me feel not 100%?.. So I began to listen to my body and also look at the many external signs, that are around me, that I believe will always tell me what I need to know.. So one of the first things that I realized is that I was not in touch with myself in the same way that I used to be a long time ago... Sometimes taking a moment to just think about my life, my family, my projects and to ask myself if what I am doing with my choices are working for me.. So I did it and started with some internal work and some external work...
My external work... My house.. I turned my house upside down... I moved everything and reorganizedeverything.. I normally do this once a year but this time I wasn’t just cleaning the house, I was also letting things go, things that meant a lot to me at some point, but I knew that this was the moment to move on and let them go... They were occupying a space that was ready and waiting for a new memory of the now.. It was liberating!
I created new spaces for Sofia and Emma to read, do homework, play and to relax...! For Jules, oh well, he now has a new office!!... I surprised him with a new desk.. however I had to approach this strategically ... I knew that if I just walked into his office and said "hey darling I am just having a moment in my life and I feel that we have to change your office," it would not work.. for sure he supports and helps me in anything (completely re-organizingthe garage for example, thank god, our garage was a nightmare) but his office - No Way!!... So I hadthe “supposedly innocent” idea of looking at a few desks on the internet with him and in that moment I remembered a shop that we both really like... and Yes, there it was, a desk that he liked... a few days later I wassecretly buying the desk and three days after that the desk was delivered .. Voila! Surprise darling!!!!! Heabsolutely loved it and with that was inspired to completely re-organize and improve his office... it now looks so smart and even has a gorgeous scented candle that he lights every morning!
And for me...I now have an office, Yes!!! My own office.. Having always worked in the dining room, which wasnice but not ideal, I decided to empty a room that was full of other stuff and I put in an old desk and some other furniture that used to be stored in the garage, perfect! It is tiny but then so am I, so there is no need for more.. I feel very important when I sit at my desk... My neighbour is my maid.. her room is right beside me... haha.. It is funny!
In the meantime during all of this “house revolution” I have been working on all of my projects as well, organizing events and activities, riding in the mornings and of course going to lots of great parties, dinner parties, events and more parties... as for my internal quest … well I realized that doing all these things is something that I know, I love and make me happy.. so it did not take me that long to resolve ...So viva la fiesta!!! One of the parties was at a super cool social club that Jules and I belong to ... The theme was 1920’s... OMG.. Everybody was wearingclothes and outfits of this time, and when I stood on the balcony and looked down at all the people socializingaround the pool and bar area it felt that we had all gone back in time, absolutely amazing... What a night!
To finish this month we went with a group of friends to our classic Polo weekend at our favorite estancia... What a blast.. We played Polo, ate, drank, laughed and enjoyed our time like no tomorrow.. so much so that we ended upstaying an extra day...Our kids also had a dream time, they rode horses and played with their friends in the green fields of the estancia for as long and late as their little bodies allowed them...Magical Time, memories that last forever!
I will keep listening to my body and to the worlds arround me... in the meantime life carries on and I want to carryon with her...To Louise, Aimee, Thomas and Troy what a plesure to see you all again friends! ❀ Liana

Less Quiet Times . . .
| Families Out In Support Of Terry Fox |
So inevitably after a quiet time comes a busy one.
Last Saturday we head over to the school to participate in a Terry Fox family run. I think it's pretty safe to say that for Canadians Terry Fox is a national hero. For anyone not familiar with his story, he was a young Canadian diagnosed with cancer. He lost his leg in his fight with the disease.
In 1980, Terry Fox, by then a cancer survivor and amputee, decided that he needed to do something to raise awareness and to help fund more research to help future generations. So he made the bold decision to run across Canada. Given that Canada is the second largest nation on earth it was no small dream. His goal was to put his foot in both oceans by running a marathon a day, on an artificial leg.
His journey called the Marathon Of Hope is legendary. As a young man without means his journey started quietly with determination and perseverance, and a dip of the toe in the Atlantic Ocean.
By the time he reached Ontario the entire nation cheered him on. He was a celebrity. Collectively we watched him every night on the news. (It was the first news story that my husband and I ever watched as kids. It made a huge impression.) As a country we rushed out to the streets to cheer. Mobs of people ran along side him. We donated money to the cause.
Terry Fox never lost his vision and he ran a marathon a day for 143 days. In the end he ran a total of 5373 kilometers - with one leg. Think about that. It's staggering. As he reached the city of Thunder Bay the cancer spread and he was forced to stop. As a country we went quiet and we held our breath. We wanted him to get better. We wanted him to reach his goal. We wanted to see him put his toe in the Pacific Ocean.
But it was not a fairy tale ending. Terry Fox passed away. None of us will ever forget it. He was our hero. Terry Fox taught us so many things. He taught us humility. He taught us to never give up and to fight for what we believe in. He taught us that one person can make a huge difference.
His goal was to raise one dollar for every Canadian, roughly twenty million dollars at the time. Over thirty years later I'm sure he would be thrilled to know that he has raised hundreds of millions of dollars (I've read figures ranging from 400-500 million) in over 60 countries. It's an astounding achievement. More than that I'm sure he'd be thrilled to see families out together, exercising together, being healthy together. That was a beautiful thing to watch . . . walkers, runners and baby strollers all working in unison. What a thrill to share this piece of history with our kids all the way from Argentina!
Sunday brought an entirely different set of events. Michael played soccer in the morning. I took the kids to a birthday party. Afterward we met at home and re-grouped. Michael and Colin settled in for a boy's day. Meryn and I got all dolled up and drove downtown to see a stage production of Mamma Mia. As a long time lover of ABBA it felt like a must. At the Sunday matinee we were surrounded by people of all ages. Grandparents, kids and couples were all there. Funnily enough Liana and her family were there too. We did the eye wink from across the room and carried on with our little ones.
The show was fantastic. The singing was great. The costumes sparkly. It was a perfect day out for a mom and her girl. It's quite something to hear ABBA translated into Spanish . . . At the end they performed several dance numbers and the theatre went nuts. People stood up and danced and clapped and sang. At one point Meryn asked me why the floor was shaking and I replied, "it's from all the dancing." She smiled.
Afterward we went to one of our restaurants for dinner and then drove home to meet the boys after their day of modeling, video games and eating burgers from a favourite joint. It was a good day. ✿ Micheline

Quiet Times
Up, down, yin, yang . . . one can't exist without the other. We are definitely going through a quiet time around our house. During the days while the kids are at school it seems that I'm always on the go with some activity out in the community and afternoons are busy with the kids. But with Michael in the throws of a heavy travel time, nights and weekends are unquestionably quiet. It's one of the perils of expatriate living. We all want Papi to come home and he will soon. In the meantime our big moments this weekend included going out for ice cream and putting together a 600 piece puzzle of the earth. Quiet. Good. Comfortable.
As hard as it can be after a while I'm trying to embrace it. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel for this particular session of travelling. We have a lot of great stuff to come that is on the books. I know when we finish the school semester in a couple of months we will be in a social frenzy. By the end I'll be counting the days until I can put myself on a airplane to Canada and just relax.
Busy times and quiet times. The trick is to be happy with whatever the moment brings. Not always easy . . .
